About

Chelsey Santry, a veteran of the denim industry, founded Ética, a Los Angeles-based brand. With years of experience as a merchandiser, a creative director, and eventually co-founder of a contemporary women's label, Santry witnessed a great deal of waste in the industry. In 2019, she launched Ética, providing a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to conventional jeans. According to Santry, Ética significantly reduces water usage by 99%, energy consumption by 67%, and chemical use by 70% compared to industry standards. The brand has committed to fair labor, environmentally conscious manufacturing, and social responsibility since its founding. Notably, Gigi Hadid, Charlize Theron, and Sarah Jessica Parker have all worn Ética's ultra-stylish jeans. Read on to learn more about why we adore this brand.

What’s Proper

  • Social Integrity: Ética's factory in Puebla, Mexico is recognized by international agencies for social responsibility and environmental practices. They provide workers with living wages, health benefits, and free meals. They also support local communities through water recycling, using materials that require less water, and partnering with organizations committed to workers' rights and environmental initiatives.
  • Water Conservation: Ética takes multiple steps to save water throughout the supply chain. They prioritize materials like organic cotton, Tencel, and plant-based polymers that require less water. They use water-saving technologies in their factory, including a washing technique that converts air into nanobubbles, saving over a thousand gallons of water with every load. The little water used is recycled back into the production process.
  • No Microplastics: 100% of Ética fabrics are free of microplastics. They use degradable stretch fabrics made of post-consumer plastics and renewable plant-based resources.
  • Attention to Detail: Ética's commitment to sustainability is evident in every detail, from material sourcing and manufacturing technologies to hardware, labels, hang tags, and packaging.

What’s Not

Nothing, we love everything about Ética and are impressed by its commitment to creating denim brand that is not only fashionable but sustainable.

Denim Review

We were impressed by the quality and unique details of each of the Etica Jeans we tried. It's clear that they are designed and constructed with craftsmanship. The various washes in each jean style have their own special details and distressing.

Our favorite looks from Etica are the two-tone and paneled looks like the Sai Paneled Work Pant. The brand also carries denim in a variety of different colors like orchid, dusty aqua, and canyon clay (our favorite). They even have a pretty large selection of denim jumpsuits, from sleeveless to carpenter and a belted retro style.

Since Etica is a brand I was not familiar with, I checked out their size chart before ordering. I measured my hips and waist and matched up to a size 31. I decided to go with the brand's recommendation and ordered a size 31 along with my go-to size 28. I found that the 28 fit best in all styles and would even consider sizing up to a 29 in the higher waisted styles for a boyfriend look.
