About

Boyish is a Los Angeles-based brand putting out cool, sustainable jeans for the tomboy in all of us. The brand was “Inspired by the stylish women who often describe their personal style as "Boyish.”  California native Jordan Nodarse launched Boyish to make good jeans with as little impact on the planet as possible.

We absolutely love Boyish here at Proper. Their styles are all effortlessly cool, and they take sustainability seriously. Read on to learn why we love them so much.

What’s Proper

  • Educational & Transparent. Boyish is not only transparent in their sourcing and production decisions, but they also help customers to understand why they make the decisions they make. Their website provides in-depth explanation of fabric choices, production processes and reutlization efforts. No digging needed. The curious can even check out their annual sustainability report to learn more about their fiber usage, traceability, their factories, and their carbon footprint. Boyish is clear on their future goals and provide insight into where they stand today.
  • Innovation, innovation, innovation.  Boyish is using cutting edge production technologies and new sustainable fibers. For example, Boyish uses a faux stone washing process rather than the conventional pumice stone washing. This allows all of the water used in the washing process to be recycled, as no sludge is created from the faux stone, unlike traditional stones. The brand also uses laser finishing machines and natural enzymes to create washed and vintage looks, saving water, reducing chemical usage and maximazing energy efficiency.
Boyish has a list of their ‘Yes’ and ‘No” fibers, using data from  lifecycle assessments to articulate their decision. The five fibers sourced for denim include certified organic cotton, recycled cotton, Tencel Lyocell, Tencel x Refibra Lyocell, and a biodegradable stretch material.
  • Circular Boyish keeps circularity at the forefront of their decision making process. As members of the The Jeans Redesign Project they are committed to making durable jeans that have an extended lifespan. They use recycled cotton, deadstock fabric, and even recycled labels. Their fabric and materials choice enable their jeans to be more durable, recyclable and degradable (if they do end up in a landfill).
They even have a Consignment Shop where customers can re-sell their pre-loved Boyish jeans.

What’s Not

Final Sale Policy. We are nit-picky here as we do love Boyish but the Final Sale policy is tough on shoppers. All sale items are non-refundable making it difficult for a shopper who is new to their brand and doesn’t know their fit. Boyish does have a plug in to help customers find their size but sometimes sizing varies from style to style. More on this below.

Denim Review

We cannot say enough good things about Boyish. Their denim line is so versatile that anyone can find something that suits their style.

I ordered four pairs of jeans from Boyish, ranging from skin-tight The Ricky flared jeans to an extra wide-leg loose fitting, The Jovi.  As I stepped into each jean, I could tell immediately that I was going to love the style. Each pair was unique, comfortable and crafted with quality.

Overall, Boyish jeans run true to size. Check out the reviews below for more details on fit.
